There is no such thing as bad weather only bad clothing decisions

After a good nights sleep by the Bhote Koshi river we all awoke at 7:00am for a nice warm breakfast of bread, eggs and pancakes. Our guide Mungo Ross gave us a good chat about taking it slow today because we were ascending 600 meters/1968 feet today in only 5k/3.2 miles. We were also introduced to Dawa our Sirdir, Chemna, Lame and Shiv our Sherpa guides. Jambo our Porter and Jit our Yakman. Right as we were getting set to leave for today’s hike it started raining. We all dropped our bags and spent a good 20 minutes donning our wet weather gear.

Our total time hiking today was around 5.5 hours and the group was spread out as we all set our own pace along the trail. We passed the entrance to Sagarmatha National Park entrance which is in a narrow valley that opens to a wide open valley after a long trek downhill.

As we followed the main path we walked along rows of pine trees, blossoming rhododendron trees and magnolia trees that have pure white blooms right now.

While the hike today to Namche Bazaar was very wet and slippery it helped us keep a slow pace as the rocks were wet and mud covered. We all gave our wet weather gear a good test with the persistent and steady raindrops and were happily greeted at the tea house with some hot tea and warm fire.

We have the next three nights here in Namche to acclimatize to the thin air. We will take local hikes in the next two days and enjoy some down time to update our journals and do some shopping in the capital of the Khumbu region.
